Goldust Praised As Underrated Part Of WWE Attitude Era
A wrestler who knows Dustin Rhodes very well has praised his work as WWE legend Goldust.
The WWE Attitude Era officially began at some point in 1997 depending on who is telling the story. However, there was a newcomer on the scene in 1995 who represented a unique attitude of his own: Goldust.
Dustin Rhodes wrestled using that name for several years before Vince McMahon offered him a job as Goldust, who was a man who considered himself a Hollywood star. The golden one would often recite lines from famous movies while doing his best to play mind games with his opponents.
As Goldust, Dustin Rhodes worked for WWE from 1995 all the way through the 2010 decade although he did leave the promotion multiple times due to out of the ring issues. The company kept bringing him back because of how talented he was and how popular the character became.
Cody Rhodes Wants Dustin Rhodes Aka Goldust In WWE Hall Of Fame
While Goldust didn’t become a WWE Champion, he was a three-time Tag Team Champion and three-time Intercontinental Champion among other accomplishments.
One of those men he was Tag Team Champion with was his brother, the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. While speaking to The Schmo, Cody praised his older brother Dustin for the Goldust run.
“I think I was 14 years old when Goldust was really hitting his stride on WWE television. And I can certainly say that it was a unique thing to see. My friends had a lot of feelings about what Goldust was doing.”
“However, knowing how much he had subverted expectations, knowing how much he didn’t want to just be a Rhodes, he wanted to be his own thing, and what he did in the links he went to do it. I was very proud of Dustin throughout that whole run, what he did, and the lengths he went to do it.”
“Goldust was an underrated part of the Attitude Era, certainly somebody worthy of the Hall of Fame.”
The only thing that is likely preventing that WWE Hall of Fame induction is that Dustin Rhodes is still wrestling for AEW at the age of 55. In fact, he’s the current ROH Tag Team Champion with Sammy Guevara and a current ROH 6-Man Tag Team Champion with Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich.
Most wrestlers might be retired by his age, but it appears that Dustin Rhodes is happy as a wrestler and plans to continue since he recently stated that AEW was good for his soul.
