Goldberg Wants To “Pass The Torch” To WWE Star

Goldberg is looking ahead to retirement.

Just before WWE Crown Jewel went on the air in November, Goldberg announced his intention to return to the ring for a retirement match in 2025.

A month earlier, the veteran got into a heated confrontation with Gunther at Bad Blood after the World Heavyweight Champion insulted his family while he sat at ringside. This naturally led to speculation that Gunther could be the man to retire Goldberg, although any plans appear to be on hold for the time being.

During a new interview with Ariel Helwani, the former WCW Champion said he wouldn’t turn down the chance to pass the torch to Gunther if an approach was made.

“He’s the new generation. I’m the old generation. It’s kind of like a passing of the torch in a way. I wouldn’t turn that one down by any stretch of the imagination. You don’t ever open your mouth in front of my wife and my son negatively about me.”

Vince McMahon Went Back On Goldberg Deal

During the interview, the WCW legend also dived into comments he made back in 2023 where he claimed Vince McMahon blocked a previous agreement for a retirement. He explained that the agreement was made after his match with Roman Reigns shortly after overcoming COVID-19 in February 2022.

“Vince had promised me another match because not too many people know this, but I took the Roman match with like a month prior notice, and I had Covid. That’s not the way to go out. I always, in the bottom of my heart, wanted to go out and present myself in a little bit more positively than I was able to.

I mean, Paul and I spoke and we came to an agreement that in 2025 I’d have my retirement match.”

Goldberg recently confirmed he’s back in training as he prepares for his in-ring comeback. The WWE Hall of Famer was recently forced to take a break after undergoing stem cell treatment to deal with several nagging injuries.
