Goldberg & Sting In Discussions Over Major International Show
Goldberg set tongues wagging recently when he hinted that he could be set for at least one more match and that it might not come in a WWE ring.
The WCW icon recently noted that he was “leaning toward” a self-promoted retirement tour after his latest deal with WWE came to an end. Although not everyone that worked with the star thinks that’s a good idea.
Speaking to Nick Hausman for Haus of Wrestling, Rick Bassman who is a former wrestling promoter explained that he’s dipping his toe back into that world for a possible international tour featuring both Goldberg and AEW star Sting:
“First of all, I’m actively in touch with Bill, I’m working on a date right now. I don’t promote much these days but every now and then, something fun comes up, and it’s worth diving into. So working on a date in Jerusalem, Israel for September of this year. And that would involve, potentially, both Goldberg and Sting. And then on the whole ladder, you have the AEW clearance issues, of course. So that’s something that I really hope to put together.
“Now, only because I’ve been in touch actively with Bill, and then also with his agent, Barry Bloom, who is a longtime good friend. They are working on exactly what you described. But to my knowledge, it still needs to all be nailed down. That said, I would not be surprised to see Bill end up back in WWE for something massive.”
There had previously been some suggestion that AEW All In in Wembley Stadium could play host to a retirement match for Sting, given that it’s unlikely he’ll ever compete in front of such a large audience again in his career.
