Why Goldberg Refused To Lose To Former World Champion
Goldberg’s retirement match is against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, which begs the question whether or not Da Man will agree to lose against The Ring General.
The WWE Hall of Famer returned to Monday Night RAW, and challenged Gunther for the championship. The match is scheduled for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th, 2025.
The challenger has already answered back to Bully Ray for commenting about Da Man not waiting in line for the title shot. Now, he might not agree to lose his retirement match.
Goldberg’s ego might become an issue for WWE
Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo discussed about the Hall of Famer’s ego and him not wanting to lose a match, if it meant hurting his record.
Keeping that in mind, the company should have booked a match against someone who could be defeated by him without it hurting either superstars’ credit.
Vince Russo recalled a time 25 years ago when the WWE Hall of Famer refused to lose to Scott Steiner.
I will say this about Goldberg, when I work with Goldberg, I mean Coach I’m going back 25 years. So, this is when the guy is in his prime and you know, it’s 25 years but Coach you talk about ego, I needed Goldberg to do a job to Scott Steiner for the title. Goldberg refused to do it. So I said , ‘Bill, like why?’. He looked at me and said, ‘if this were a shoot, I would kick Scott Steiner’s a**’. I looked at him and I said, ‘Bill, I’ll tell you what. Scott Steiner is standing right over. You go, you go tell that to Scott Steiner and see what Scott Steiner tells you’.
It is largely believed that Sami Zayn and Jey Uso should not have defeated Gunther. If WWE adds another name to the list, it could truly hurt The Ring General’s position on the roster.
