Goldberg Has Point To Prove In Final Match Against Gunther
Goldberg is ready to go to war one last time.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, Goldberg will step into the ring for the 383rd and final time.
At the special, the WCW legend will square off against Gunther as he looks to capture one final World Championship.
The seeds for the clash were planted at Bad Blood 2024, where Gunther fired a series of verbal shots at Goldberg and his family, who were sitting at ringside. The WWE Hall of Famer’s final match has been a long time in the making after he revealed that Vince McMahon went back on a promise to book a retirement bout after his match with Roman Reigns in 2022.
Goldberg Comments On How Retirement Match Came Together
During an interview with 11Alive, Goldberg looked ahead to his last dance and broke down what’s motivating him as he prepares to meet Gunther in Atlanta, Georgia. The star explained that while he’s going to be in the ring with Gunther, he’s determined to show the younger generation why “old guys” deserve respect.
“Well, as I said the other night on the show, I was vying for my retirement match and he just so happened to put himself in that spot. It could have happened to anybody that opened their mouth negatively about me and my family when we were there, back for the pay-per-view (Bad Blood). So I don’t know whether it was planned by him. I don’t know.
ll I can say is he willingly stepped right into that spot, and I willingly accepted him as my final opponent. I just want to put my fist through his face. I just want to make sure that this younger generation, and he’s representing that younger generation, respects us old guys, and they must understand that we must command that respect forever because you never know what position they’re in or condition they’re in or.. You never know if they’re still willing to go and I’m still willing to go.
So you better watch your mouth and you, younger generation, man, look up to your elders, respect them because you never know what can happen.”
Elsewhere at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Drew McIntyre takes on Randy Orton, and LA Knight will clash with Seth Rollins.
