Goldberg Opens Up About Battling Injuries During WWE Comeback
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg discussed the challenges he faced during his return to WWE in 2016, particularly an injury he sustained while competing against Brock Lesnar at that year’s Survivor Series.
Goldberg revealed that he tore his rotator cuff on the very first night back, a setback he chose to keep private.
I tore my rotator cuff the first night I went back with Brock, and I didn’t tell anybody.
Goldberg explained that he managed to work around the injury throughout his WWE comeback, navigating various situations where he could perform despite the pain. But he struggled with mobility afterwards.
Certain situations I could work around and certain times I couldn’t. I couldn’t lift my arm for five years, six years.
He opted to keep his condition to himself, fearing that if he disclosed the injury, it might lead to surgery that could jeopardise his availability for WWE events.
If I would have said anything, God forbid I go get surgery and then Vince would need me. It was tough, because not only are you older and you’re trying to be that 300-pound behemoth that just spits nails and s**ts fire, but you also have a torn rotator cuff and labrum.
Goldberg’s final WWE match was against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in 2022, after competing in twelve matches following his return in 2016.
