Goldberg To Make WWE Return As Retirement Nears
Goldberg is set to begin his wrestling goodbye.
Just before WWE Crown Jewel went on the air in November, Goldberg announced his intention to return to the ring for a retirement match in 2025.
The veteran hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Roman Reigns in February 2022, while he later claimed he was screwed out of a promised farewell by Vince McMahon.
The announcement came after the WWE Hall of Famer got into an altercation with Gunther at Bad Blood. With Goldberg positioned in the crowd, the World Heavyweight Champion took the opportunity to throw some verbal jabs his way, telling him he hoped he was a better father than he was a wrestler. At this, the former WCW World Champion tried to jump the barricade to get at Gunther but security intervened to keep the peace.
Goldberg Is Coming To Monday Night Raw
In a new Wrestling Observer subscriber exclusive, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE is trying to spread out many of the big moments it has on the way, to avoid a dip on Raw following the Netflix debut on January 6th. As such, Goldberg is set to appear on January 27th when the show comes live from Atlanta.
As stated by Meltzer, Gunther remains a “probable opponent” for the WCW legend’s retirement match.
Meanwhile, John Cena is set to kick off his retirement tour on Raw as he plans to say goodbye to his in-ring career by the end of the year. According to the most recent report on WWE’s plans for Cena, he’s currently in line to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania as he looks to win the World Championship one more time.
However, the same report warned that this could change should The Rock decide he’s wrestling at the event.
