Goldberg May Have Agreed To Lose Final WWE Match for Personal Reason

Bill Goldberg WWE

At WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia, fans witnessed the closing chapter of Goldberg’s storied wrestling career.

In a brutal and emotional match, the Hall of Famer took on the dominant World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther. While many expected Goldberg to pull off a win in his hometown for a fairytale ending, the veteran instead passed out, allowing Gunther to retain the championship.

The outcome shocked fans and fueled speculation about why Da Man, known for his decisive wins, would end his career in defeat.

Why Goldberg Lost According to Stevie Richards?

On a recent episode of The Stevie Richards Show, the former WWE star offered a surprising theory behind Goldberg’s decision to lose the match. According to Richards, the 58-year-old legend may have been thinking more about his son, Gage, than himself when agreeing to the outcome.

“The Goldberg thing, I don’t know. See, that’s the one thing I don’t think Goldberg would have (lost). Maybe he’s doing good business because he knows his kid’s going to go into the developmental. Maybe it’s more about his kid than him.

“All I’m saying with that is, what’s Goldberg going to do? Maybe he has self-awareness now. Why do I have to (win). Okay, I’ll put Gunther over and this just gonna be it. And then the fans are gonna, they’re expecting me to win, but maybe now I’m gonna be coaching Gage to be a wrestler. And maybe it’s going to be Gage and Gunther. Everybody was like, ‘Oh my God, do you think it…’ They’ve done it before with Dominik, right? So he got in there way too quick.” [2:27:19 -2:28:10]

Richards’ speculation adds a new layer to Goldberg’s surprising defeat. Rather than insisting on going out on top, the former World Heavyweight Champion may have chosen to build a path forward for his son, much like Rey Mysterio did for his son Dominik Mysterio.

Although Goldberg and WWE haven’t confirmed anything, the idea that the Hall of Famer is looking toward the future, perhaps with Gage stepping into the ring, could explain why he chose to go out putting someone else over.
