Goldberg Confirms He Suffered Injury In WWE Retirement Match
Goldberg is injured.
In the headline bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, Goldberg stepped into the ring for the final time. Although his match with Gunther didn’t end with him claiming one last World Championship, he did push his rival all the way before ultimately being defeated.
In fact, the match was the second-longest of the WCW legend’s career.
On the latest episode of his CarCast podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer looked back on his last night in the ring and confirmed that he did suffer an injury in the process. However, he said that outside of a broken hand, he’s feeling good.
“Oh yeah, yeah (I feel good physically following the retirement match). You can’t really tell but, my hand, I broke my hand, at some point in that match, and I think today’s the first day I can see veins back in my hand. It’s not nearly as swollen as it was. That and… shoulder didn’t hurt, neck didn’t hurt. My knee isn’t worse.”
The veteran went on to praise his opponent, Gunther, describing him as “unbelievable.”
“All I hear is people complaining about me complaining and not many have reached the fact that it was the second-longest match I ever did in my life at 58 years old. Now, I could not have done it without GUNTHER. That kid is freakin’ unbelievable.
I mean, it was a wonderful opportunity to be in the ring with him, and an honor, and I couldn’t have done it without him. Your limitations are yourself and your dance partner, and he made it happen so, it was awesome. I had a good time.”
MJF Ready To Face Goldberg
In the days after Saturday Night’s Main Event, the star admitted he was disappointed by how his retirement run played out, even suggesting that WWE didn’t put in enough effort.
In addition, when pressed on his plans for the future, Goldberg said that although he’s retired “in principle,” he can’t promise that he won’t wrestle again.
Following those comments, AEW star MJF said he’d gladly step in the ring with Goldberg to give him the send-off he deserves. Obviously, he meant by embarrassing him in the ring one more time.
