Goldberg Explains What Went Wrong In His Infamous 2019 Match With The Undertaker

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg shed light on the infamous events leading up to his notorious 2019 Super ShowDown match against The Undertaker.

Speaking on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet,” Goldberg revealed that he suffered a concussion just moments before the bout, setting the stage for what is often regarded as one of the worst matches in modern wrestling history. He recounted the mishap that occurred as he was preparing to make his entrance.

I knocked myself out before walking to the freaking ring, I headbutted the door right when they played my music and I knocked myself out.

This unfortunate incident severely affected his performance from the start. The match, already off to a shaky start, only got worse. He suffered another concussion during the bout itself, which he attributed to his own aggressive style.

I unintentionally headbutted the freaking ring post and it knocked me for another one. So, I had two concussions leading up to me dropping him on his head.

These injuries significantly impacted the match’s quality and safety. One of the critical moments came when The Undertaker executed a Tombstone Piledriver, which was miscalculated, causing further injury to Goldberg. Reflecting on the chaotic encounter, he admitted his own recklessness played a role in the disaster.

Goldberg acknowledged his responsibility for the match’s failings. One of the most notorious moments occurred when Goldberg attempted a Jackhammer on The Undertaker but fell back dangerously, nearly causing serious injury.

What Did Goldberg Say About The Idea Of Having One More Match?

Goldberg said that he’d “love” to have one more match but he needs to have shoulder surgery before he can do it. Goldberg also stated that his last match doesn’t have to be under the banner of a major promotion like WWE or AEW but that he could promote his own final match, much like Ric Flair did in 2022.
