Goldberg Breaks Down What Makes Retirement Match So Special
Goldberg is already putting in the work.
In the hours before Crown Jewel, Goldberg announced he’ll be having a retirement match in 2025. There’s no word on when the match will take place or who the WWE Hall of Famer’s opponent will be.
The comments came after the veteran got into a shouting match with Gunther at Bad Blood. This included the World Heavyweight Champion calling the star a “one trick pony,” adding that he hopes he’s a better father than he is a wrestler.
Unsurprisingly, the comments didn’t go down well with the former WCW World Champion and he attempted to attack Gunther, but the pair were kept apart by security.
Goldberg Is Excited To Choose His Own Ending
During a recent episode of his CarCast podcast, the veteran looked ahead to his last match and said he’ll forever be grateful for getting to end his career on his own terms.
“There are few things in the world that younger the opportunity to plan out yourself, as far as an endgame, like the finality,” he said. “I get to help plan it. That’s pretty awesome. So that in and of itself puts me in a position where I’m forever grateful.”
The former World Champion went on to get into his preparation for the match, explaining that he’s got plenty of time to get ready this time in contrast to his previous outing. He added that fans will be pleasantly surprised by his performance whenever the match takes place.
“I’ll have a long time to recover after this one, so I’m putting it all out there on the line. The fact is, I’ve got a number of months to get ready for something that will take 15 minutes in the ring. The preparation always is much harder than the performance…
But I do believe that I set my standards quite high, and at the end of the day, I think people will be more than pleasantly surprised with the outcome of my performance.”
In a recent interview, former WWE star Matt Riddle poked fun at Goldberg, suggesting he doesn’t want to “step up to the plate” and face him as he retires.
Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia in February 2022.
