Gail Kim Breaks Silence On Shock TNA Firing
Gail Kim isn’t done with wrestling despite her departure from TNA.
On March 25, it was announced that TNA Wrestling had fired several members of staff including Gail Kim. According to the company, Ariel Shnerner, Rob Kligman, and Michael Shewchenko were also given their marching orders.
While all of the firings were unexpected, Kim’s exit stunned fans and industry insiders alike. The star is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in modern women’s wrestling having played a key role in the creation of the Knockouts division, as well as pushing for equality across the board.
In the wake of her TNA exit, Jim Ross said he would endorse Gail Kim for a role in AEW should Tony Khan look to bring her in.
Gail Kim Responds, Vows To Return To Wrestling
In a statement on Instagram, Kim addressed her firing for the first time and began by thanking fans and peers for their support since the news broke. The TNA legend went on to say that despite the controversial nature of her exit, she will return to the wrestling industry in some capacity.
“Just wanted to say thank you to the fans, friends and especially my peers for all the support you have given me over the last few days. I’ve received such an enormous amount of love and it really has helped process this change for me,.
More than anything I am grateful for all the years and opportunities I was given to help build something I always dreamed of. The [Knockouts] division is and will always be my heart and all the women who were a part of it. Thanks to the incredibly hard working and passionate TNA talent & crew that I have had the pleasure of working with.
This will not end my passion or my love for wrestling and this is not the end of Gail Kim in the wrestling world. You don’t put in 17 years in one company and stop when you are this passionate.
I look forward to sharing my journey and am taking some time for myself and prepare for what’s ahead. Looking forward to the future”
Meanwhile, in a statement issued to the media, Anthem Sports Group President Carlos Silva put the departures down to restructuring. TNA has been a subsidiary of the Anthem Group since early 2017.
