Gable Steveson Reveals When His WWE Debut Might Happen

Gable Steveson has revealed when he might debut as a wrestler in WWE while also expressing an interest in being in the Olympics again.

The first ever Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler in WWE history was Kurt Angle, who won Olympic Gold in 1996, which is a fact that Angle has mentioned more than a few dozen times on TV over the last 25 years. However, Angle is not the only one.

At the 2020 Summer Tokyo Olympics, which actually took place in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gable Steveson won the gold medal in the 125 kg weight group. Steveson is also a two-time NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Champion.

In September 2021, after making an appearance at SummerSlam 2021 with his gold medal, Steveson signed a deal with WWE. While there were rumors that he would be fast-tracked to the main roster including a big push right away, it didn’t happen that quickly. In the October 2021 WWE Draft, Steveson was drafted to the Raw brand even though he had never had a match in WWE before.

Gable Steveson appeared at WrestleMania 38 last year in a segment with Chad Gable where Steveson slammed the former Olympian rather easily. Steveson also appeared on Smackdown in December 2022 for Kurt Angle’s birthday, but other than that, he hasn’t been mentioned on WWE TV.

In an interview with MMAFighting, it was noted that Gable Steveson has been training for his WWE debut for the past seven months. Steveson spoke about how he was interested in competing in the Olympics again and possibly winning a second gold medal.

“I’m 22 and next year I’ll be 23 at the Olympic games. It’s definitely a blessing to be able to call yourself an Olympic gold medalist and to be able to have the WWE fans recognize you with that, but in my eyes, there’s always a next and there’s always a bigger show to accomplish.”

“WWE is another show to accomplish, but being a two-time Olympic gold medalist is also on the top of my list. It’s a blessing to do it and it’s unheard of, but I love the challenge and I love the fight.”

As for when his WWE debut might happen, Gable Steveson seems to think it might be after WrestleMania 39 this April.

“I’m pretty close to debuting and being on-screen. I’m just waiting for that call and waiting for that time. Some days it’s stressful because I never know when it will come and I’m used to amateur wrestling where it’s like, ‘Hey, we have the Olympics in three months or we have the Olympic trials in two months, be ready for it.’”

“Right now, you’re going through the motions with no goal, and I wish I could have that goal in sight and put forth and give people real answers when I’m debuting, but it will be coming really, really soon. And when I mean really, really soon, probably after [WrestleMania] or just a little bit after that. I think being able to understand that this game is different and it’s a process and I’m going to follow the process the right way and just keep moving forward.”

The MMAFighting article on Gable Steveson also mentioned that the former Minnesota Gopher is interested in competing in MMA fighting as well.

It is worth noting that Steveson’s brother Bobby works for WWE on the NXT brand as Damon Kemp. It’s unknown if Steveson will start on NXT or debut on the main roster.
