Friend Of Cody Rhodes Reacts To Shocking WWE Title Change
A friend of Cody Rhodes has offered up an interesting reaction to the American Nightmare’s WWE Title loss.
Cody Rhodes’ second WWE Championship reign ended on the January 9th edition of SmackDown in Berlin.
In a 3 Stages of Hell match against Drew McIntyre, it was McIntyre getting the first fall in a regular match, and then Rhodes tied it up in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
The third fall was contested in a Steel Cage when Jacob Fatu decided to show up to prevent McIntyre from leaving the cage to win. However, Fatu’s presence ended up costing Rhodes, as after Fatu attacked McIntyre in the ring, Rhodes grabbed him and asked why he was there. Rhodes and Fatu got into a brawl, so McIntyre crawled out of the cage door and hit the floor to win the WWE Title.
Drew McIntyre is celebrating as the WWE Champion, and he’s back home in Scotland in front of his hometown crowd, while Rhodes is likely furious about what happened.
Matt Cardona Supports Cody Rhodes After WWE Title Loss
During a backstage segment earlier on WWE SmackDown in Berlin, Matt Cardona spoke to Cody Rhodes about how he was coming for the WWE Title. Rhodes said after he beat McIntyre, they could talk about it. Rhodes and Cardona started in WWE around the same time, 20 years ago, and they are very good friends.
On Instagram, Matt Cardona showed support for his pal Rhodes while making his own intentions clear.
“I know my bud (Cody Rhodes) will become a 3 time champ, but there’s 1 championship that’s eluded me my entire career…
I’M NOT FINISHED!”
Matt Cardona is part of an 8-man tournament to try to earn a shot at the WWE Championship. There are four singles matches set for the January 16th edition of SmackDown:
* Randy Orton vs. The Miz
* Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams
* Damian Priest vs. Solo Sikoa
* Sami Zayn vs. Ilja Dragunov
The winners of those matches will face off in a Fatal 4-Way Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24th in Montreal, which is Sami Zayn’s hometown.
Whoever wins that match at Saturday Night’s Main Event will go on to the Royal Rumble on January 31st in Riyadh to challenge the Undisputed WWE Champion for the biggest prize on SmackDown. That match will likely be against the WWE Champion McIntyre, not Rhodes.
