Former WWE Writer Thinks Kevin Owens Should Be A Bigger Star
One former member of WWE’s creative team thinks that the company “missed the boat” with Kevin Owens.
Kevin Owens has been in WWE for almost nine years, having first signed back in 2014. Since then, Owens has won the NXT Championship once, the Intercontinental Championship twice, the US Title three times, and the Universal Championship once.
But Owens’ last reign was back in 2017 and he hasn’t had won any other titles or accolades since then.
The only other career milestone he’s had since then was main-eventing Night One of WrestleMania 38 in a talking-segment-turned match with his childhood idol ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.
Because of this dearth of success or consistently good booking, one person that used to work for WWE thinks that Kevin Owens is being misused somewhat.
Speaking on the Behind Enemy Lines Podcast, former WWE writer Chris Dunn explained that he loved working with Owens and wonders why Owens isn’t positioned more strongly in WWE in general.
“[Kevin Owens] was my favorite wrestler going when I started the job,” Dunn said. “He is such an amazing performer. He makes everything you give him better. Brilliant ideas. I think the boat was missed with him a little bit.
I feel like he should be a much bigger star, but I think Hunter’s going to rectify that. I think he’s just a great person as well, and I always felt confident in any promo I produced with Kevin.”
Dunn went on to state that Owens is one of the few wrestlers in WWE who can memorize his scripts word-for-word and still find ways to improve his delivery to fit into his storylines and feuds more smoothly.
Kevin Owens will have one of the biggest matches of his career this upcoming Saturday at the 2023 Royal Rumble PLE when he challenges Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
