Former WWE Tag Team Champ Shares Their Brush With Death
Former WWE Tag Team Champion Henry O. Godwinn opened up about a devastating car accident in 2011 that nearly claimed his life.
Speaking candidly in an interview with “Wrestling Shoot Interviews,” Godwinn shared chilling details of the incident and reflected on his friendship with the late WWE Hall of Famer, Chyna. Godwinn recalled fond memories of travelling with Chyna and Triple H during their early days in WWE.
Chyna, what a sweetheart. Me and Phineas rode with her and Hunter a few times when they were dating.
He reminisced. However, the conversation soon took a darker turn as Godwinn described the harrowing event that drastically altered his life. Just a week before he was supposed to pick up Chyna for a show in West Virginia, Godwinn found himself in a life-threatening situation. A reckless driver forced him off the road, causing his truck to flip four times. The impact of the crash was catastrophic, with Godwinn suffering a severed femoral artery.
I died twice and they flew me to a hospital and saved me.
He revealed, underscoring the severity of the accident. Emergency responders airlifted him to a hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. Godwinn detailed the extent of his injuries:
The truck was actually acting kind of like a tourniquet but it broke 14 ribs, had two collapsed lungs, ruptured my spleen, had a degloving of the leg. I got a plate in my leg, they did skin grafts, and I was on a ventilator, I had a PICC line and two chest tubes.
Despite the life-altering injuries, Godwinn expressed deep gratitude for his survival, stating:
I shouldn’t be here but the good Lord above kept me around for something.
