Former WWE Superstar Opens Up About Close Call With Championship

Lex Luger shared his thoughts on never capturing a title in WWE.

During an insightful interview with Busted Open Radio, Luger disclosed that although he came tantalisingly close to securing the WWE Championship, the coveted title ultimately eluded him in favour of Bret Hart. Despite his near miss, Luger conveyed a profound understanding of the decision-making process, recognising Hart’s exceptional championship reign and the unique circumstances surrounding the event.

In recounting the events, Luger underscored that Vince McMahon never made explicit promises regarding the WWE title. Instead, McMahon expressed a desire to orchestrate a momentous occasion, suggesting that a title victory would be most fitting at WrestleMania 10.

Vince, honestly, never promised the title to me. He said, ‘If we’re gonna do it, I want to do it at WrestleMania 10. I want it to be special.’ But things happened and Bret and I were the co-winners of the Rumble,

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the WWE title, Luger maintained a remarkably gracious and understanding demeanour. He expressed no resentment or sense of being shortchanged by the turn of events. Instead, he reflected on the entire experience with positivity, showcasing his sportsmanship and respect for the decision-making process within the organisation.

Bret was always an incredible champion, so they went in that direction. I never had any hard feelings or felt I got cheated. It was a great experience.
