Former WWE Superstar Discusses Infamous Hog Pen Match
Former WWE Tag Team Champion Henry Godwinn recently reminisced about his infamous Hog Pen match against Triple H during an appearance on The Undertaker’s “Six Feet Under” podcast The unique bout, which took place at the In Your House pay-per-view event in December 1995, has since become a notable part of WWE history.
Godwinn, known for his wrestling pig farmer gimmick, revealed that the match concept initially drew scepticism from his fellow WWE wrestlers.
I think the boys all thought it was going to be a ‘ha ha’ match.
The specially constructed Hog Pen inside the arena, complete with live hogs, set the stage for an unconventional encounter.
“I scarred him for life, 13 stitches. He threw me into the gate and it was a panel gate and it bent and it had sharp edges. Well, I threw him into it and it just sliced him wide open, sliced him down the back.
Unaware of Triple H’s injury, Godwinn continued the match, even slamming his opponent into the muck. I didn’t know, and I pressed him [above my head] and all that hog crap that had been there all day long and dirt I slammed him right in it.
Despite the injury, Godwinn expressed satisfaction with the ground-breaking match.
I thought he was going to come up with some new swine disease… But the match was very satisfying.
The Hog Pen match concept has only been revisited once since then in WWE, at Extreme Rules in 2009, when Vickie Guerrero faced Santina Marella.
