Former WWE Star Talks Scrapped Plans To Be Kane’s Brother
A former WWE Superstar has discussed original plans to become the third Brother of Destruction and how it left Jim Cornette dismayed.
Kane was famously revealed as The Undertaker’s younger brother, who was long thought to be dead, at the 1997 Badd Blood pay-per-view. Over the years the brothers have warred with one another and also teamed up as the dreaded Brothers of Destruction. But there could well have been another brother in the mix.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast, former WWE star Matt Morgan discussed how plans were in place for him to work under a mask in developmental territory OVW – then managed by Jim Cornette. Cornette was not privy to the plans for Morgan on the main roster to be re-packaged as the masked Abel and so he was aghast at the thought of having to hide his top star’s face:
“So you were the first person I told that to, I’ve never shared that story before. So no, Johnny Ace and Stephanie [McMahon] wanted me to wear a mask to work on my body language, right?”
“And so I remember Jim Cornette just being like, what? What are you doing? He’s like our top babyface champion. Why have you got to wear this? This is stupid, like, totally put me over. And I’ll always be grateful to Jimmy for that. I love Jimmy. And anyway, so they put me in this stupid mask, and Jimmy found a way to make it work because he’s freaking brilliant.”
Abel never made his way to WWE television but Matt Morgan did in 2003 when he was named by Paul Heyman as one of the five men on Brock Lesnar’s Survivor Series team.
