Why A Former WWE Champion Wants To End Their Career In AEW
A former WWE Champion wants to end their career in AEW.
Across two spells with WWE, Bobby Lashley enjoyed tremendous success, becoming a two-time World Champion during his most recent stint.
Although most often associated with the sports entertainment giant, Lashley also spent several years with TNA, winning the World Title on no less than four occasions. It was from TNA that Lashley returned to WWE in 2018 where he eventually created the Hurt Business with MVP.
However, come August 2024, Lashley decided it was time for a change and he followed MVP and Shelton Benjamin to AEW.
Since joining the reformed faction now known as the Hurt Syndicate, Lashley has already made an impressive impact, defeating Swerve Strickland at Full Gear.
Now that he’s got his feet under the AEW table, it seems Lashley has no desire to leave.
Bobby Lashley Won’t Return To WWE
During an interview with Denise Salcedo at AEW All In Texas Countdown to On Sale on December 9th, Lashley discussed his goals with the company while admitting he wants to retire All Elite.
“I want to go out with a bang. Everybody says that they want to end their career in a certain way, and that’s what I want to do, I want to end my career here in AEW, but one thing I want to be able to do is I want to be able to blow and show the Hurt Syndicate, what we are able to do when we get that opportunity.
But then again, what I want to do is I wanna be able to help out some of these guys here.
When I had an opportunity to come and meet some of the guys at AEW, there are some amazing talent wrestlers out there, so what I want to do is I want to have some storylines with some of those guys, I want to wrestle some matches that people didn’t really think of when I moved over, I want to do some of those matches that are like ‘I didn’t know that I really needed that match, but I love the fact that I got it’, so that’s what I want.
I want to be able to do some big things for AEW, promote the brand, give back to Tony, give back to a lot of the wrestlers, because when I first started in wrestling there was a lot people that helped mold my career, build my career, and I want to be able to give that back to some of these younger guys.”
Speaking elsewhere, Bobby Lashley revealed that Dan Lambert played a big role in his decision to sign with AEW. The former World Champion said he’d reached out to Lambert after leaving WWE to get his opinion on Tony Khan.
Lashley has previously spoken of the freedom he’s allowed in AEW as a major reason behind his positive feelings about the company.
