Former WWE Champion Teases Retirement

A major WWE superstar is ready to wrap up his in-ring career soon.

The retirement tour of WWE legend John Cena is grabbing all the headlines this year in what will be his final run as a WWE superstar, but he’s not the only wrestler in his late 40s ready to wrap up his career.

John Cena is 48 years old and has said he’s retiring because, physically, he just can’t do it anymore. One of Cena’s greatest rivals was AJ Styles, who is the same age.

During Cena’s WWE Clash in Paris win over Logan Paul, he even busted out a Styles Clash in tribute to Styles. Two of the best Cena-Styles matches were at SummerSlam 2016 and Royal Rumble 2017.

At WWE Raw in Paris, AJ Styles nearly beat Dominik Mysterio in a match for the Intercontinental Championship, but “Dirty” Dom got an assist from El Grande Americano to hold onto the gold.

On Instagram, AJ Styles posted an hourglass with his “P1” logo that is fading to dust. An hourglass image is a way of telling fans that his career is winding down.

One of the most popular comments in response came from former WWE superstar Karrion/Killer Kross: “Uncle Allen I will turn that hourglass upside down… don’t you dare leave us.”

AJ’s real name is Allen Jones, which is why some people call him Uncle Allen.

AJ Styles Has WWE Retirement On His Mind

At 48 years old, AJ Styles is clearly ready to wrap up his career. He commented earlier in the year that he doesn’t plan on wrestling when he’s 50, which will be in less than two years’ time in June 2027.

That’s correct. I keep saying that. I’ve said this and said this, but I will not wrestle at 50, I promise you that.

As wrestling fans know, many wrestlers change their minds and also unretire, but in AJ’s case, he does seem adamant about it.

In addition to Styles and Cena, the WWE roster is full of wrestlers in their late 40s and into their early 50s who may be retiring soon, but most of them likely won’t have the kind of sendoff that Cena has had.
