Former WWE Champion Retires Aged 45
A former WWE champion has officially retired from the ring after having not one, but two final matches.
It was recently announced that former WWE NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura would team with Manami to take on Aja Kong and Chihiro Hashimoto in her final match in Tokyo, Japan, on April 29. The match is drenched in history, with Satomura and Kong having a rivalry that stretches back decades.
Satomura began her career back in 1995 and competed in WCW, Stardom, Chikara, and several others before making her WWE debut in 2018. She eventually signed with the sports entertainment giant in 2020, working as an on-screen talent and a coach. The legend’s most recent action for WWE came during a three-date tour of Japan in July 2024, where she wrestled her first matches for the company since March 2023.
WWE’s Meiko Satomura Calls Time On Career
Now that match has taken place with Meiko Satomura and Manami picking up the victory at the Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling event in Korakuen Hall. However, that didn’t end up being the final bout of Satomura’s career.
After that match, Aja Kong asked to team with her long-time rival, and they did just that in an impromptu handicap match against Hashimoto, Mika Iwata, Senka Akatsuki, Takumi Iroha, and YUNA. That match went to a five-minute time limit draw, and the curtain finally came down on Meiko Setomura’s legendary career.
