Major Update On Former WWE Champion After 3-Month Absence
Former United States Champion, Austin Theory, has been out of WWE action since July 2025, missing all programming after suffering an undisclosed injury right after his tag team broke up with Grayson Waller on RAW.
Grayson Waller even confirmed Theory’s injury on TV, which immediately ended their A-Town Down Under partnership and led Waller into his own solo storyline with The New Day. During this time, Theory was quietly taken off WWE’s internal active roster and moved to their internal injury list, alongside other injured superstars like Zoey Stark and Ilja Dragunov.
WWE has stayed pretty tight-lipped about what exactly is wrong with Theory or how long he’ll be gone, leading to a lot of speculation about whether his absence might turn into a longer-term break or even a release. However, it’s been reported firmly that he remains on the roster, and there are no confirmed contract issues, just an injury keeping him sidelined for now.
WWE Is Still Considering Austin Theory for Survivor Series 2025
According to Fightful Select, there’s strong chatter backstage that Austin Theory is still figured into WWE’s creative plans, especially for the upcoming Survivor Series: WarGames in 2025 PLE. When asked directly about Theory’s involvement at Survivor Series, sources confirmed to Fightful that his participation was “definitely an option.”
Meanwhile, Wrestling Observer also reported that Theory and Brock Lesnar were both originally penciled in for The Vision’s team at WarGames, suggesting Theory’s TV return could be around the corner if his recovery wraps up in time.
However, Seth Rollins got hurt during his match at Crown Jewel, possibly suffering an arm injury, as he was even seen in a sling after the match. Behind the scenes, this unexpected injury sent creative into a scramble, with reports indicating that WWE backed away from their original WarGames plans because Rollins might not be able to wrestle at full strength or could even be out of action for a while.
Fightful Select suggests that Rollins’ injury did not immediately wipe out plans for Austin Theory’s involvement, but it did force WWE to rethink how prominently each guy would feature at Survivor Series.
