Former UFC Boss Linked With Surprise Move To Buy TNA

A surprising prospective owner has been linked with TNA.

A left-field rumour has been gathering pace in recent days linking former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta with purchasing TNA Wrestling.

As noted by Fightful Select, Fertitta’s name “emerged from meetings this week.” While the validity of these links remains unclear, it’s no secret that Anthem Entertainment would be open to selling its wrestling promotion if the right opportunity presented itself.

The report went on to reveal that not only was Tony Khan offered the chance to purchase TNA before the creation of AEW, but he was approached for a second time “a few years ago.”

WWE Exerting Influence Over TNA

In an equally stunning report, it had earlier been claimed that TNA Impact could move to Wednesday nights to go head-to-head with AEW Dynamite. With media rights negotiations well underway, it was claimed that Impact could move to a “WWE-associated network” before making the switch.

While WWE doesn’t own TNA, several sources noted that the sports entertainment giant has “a degree of influence” over the negotiations.

Although there’s been no confirmation that this network is the CW, its interest in TNA is genuine. The CW network is currently the home of NXT.

There have been claims that this would be another deliberate attempt by WWE to counter AEW programming, while trying to ensure that TNA becomes the number two promotion in North America.

WWE is already planning to put John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar up against AEW All Out, and could move Cena’s retirement match to counter Worlds End in December.
