Former Rival Supports A Chris Jericho WWE Return

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho has the support of a veteran wrestler with whom he has worked in WWE and AEW.

When AEW launched in January 2019, one of the first big-name wrestlers they signed was former 6-time WWE World Champion Chris Jericho.

It was a massive deal at the time because Jericho had been a WWE guy for most of the 20 years before that, although he did venture out to New Japan Pro Wrestling before the AEW launch.

Chris Jericho became the first AEW World Champion because of the name value he brought, and he is still more than capable in that role. Over the next six years, Jericho feuded with AEW’s biggest names and even put over several younger wrestlers to try to help them become bigger names.

As for his future, there is heavy speculation that WWE is planning to welcome Chris Jericho back to the company, but his AEW deal doesn’t expire until year’s end, so fans will likely have to wait to see it.

For his part, AEW Owner Tony Khan has claimed that he wants Jericho to return. Jericho has been away from AEW TV since April.

Matt Hardy Is Ready For Chris Jericho’s WWE Return

Chris Jericho is nearly 55 years old and still going strong in pro wrestling. Matt Hardy is 51 years old and has spent more than 30 years in pro wrestling, just like Jericho. Matt is thriving with brother Jeff Hardy as the NXT & TNA Tag Team Champions, who are set for another title defense at Halloween Havoc on October 25th.

On the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy spoke about Chris Jericho going back to WWE where he spent many years with The Hardy Boyz as allies and rivals.

“I mean, first off, I’ll start by saying I love Chris Jericho. I think Chris has contributed so so much to the business over the years… I almost think it’s one of those things where I just think the AEW fan base has had their share of Chris Jericho in many, many ways. And I think creatively, he’s done pretty much everything he can do there.

Chris has always been really good at understanding when it’s time to go away or take time off and come back and recharge or refresh.”

Matt went on to make the point that it feels like the right time for a Jericho return to WWE.

“I feel like the time is right. I feel like if he came back to WWE, it’d be a huge moment, especially in a Royal Rumble, whatever, wherever that appearance would be, it would be massive. And then I feel like there would be a good a good run he could do, even if it is his last run and he retires at the end of it, like Cena did.”

Regarding Jericho’s potential role in WWE if he came back, Hardy made the point that Jericho can still perform at a high level.

“I think he could work as a character. He could do an amazing run for a year, and work, I think you use him sparingly. You put him in positions to succeed. Highlight his strengths as a character, as a talker, everything else, and he can still get in the ring and go at a pretty high level.”

And I think that’s part of the business that has changed, like you have a lot of guys that have taken a lot better care of themselves when they were younger, and they can still work on a much higher level at an older age, Chris Jericho is an example of that.”
