Former Champion In Talks With Tony Khan Over AEW Exit
A long-running AEW saga could soon be over.
On February 10, AEW released Ricky Starks, Miro, and Malakai Black from their contracts. All three men had been expected to leave the company when their deals expired, but their departures came somewhat out of the blue.
Just as the dust began to settle, Ricky Starks made his WWE debut, appearing on the February 11 episode of NXT. Although there’s been no official comment, he’s expected to be joined by Miro and Black who have both been linked with a return to WWE for several months.
The debut came a little over a month after Penta finally left AEW and made his debut on Monday Night Raw.
However, not everyone has been able to get what they want.
Rey Fenix Aiming To End AEW Stay
It’s no secret that Rey Fenix also wants to leave AEW, but his situation has so far gone unresolved. Despite his unhappiness, time was added to Fenix’s contract in 2024 due to injury, despite Tony Khan appearing to have little interest in using him on television.
Fenix hasn’t wrestled for the company since July 20, despite insisting he’s ready to return to work.
However, the stalemate could soon come to an end.
According to a new report from Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone, Fenix is in talks with Tony Khan about finally ending his time with the company. A resolution is expected “soon,” with Khan advised by those around him to “put an end to this.”
AEW sources have informed me that negotiations between Tony Khan and Rey Fenix to end Fenix’s tenure with the company are progressing, and resolution is expected to happen soon. I was also informed that Tony Khan has been heavily advised to “put an end to this” soon regarding Fenix’s holding period.
It’s been widely reported that Fenix will join his brother and tag team partner Penta in WWE as soon as he’s able to do so.
