Another Former AEW World Champion Taking Time Off
A top AEW star is going on hiatus.
AEW All In represented a crescendo for several storylines, so it’s perhaps no surprise that multiple talents will be taking time off in the coming weeks.
In the days after the show, it was reported that Samoa Joe would be stepping away to focus on promotional work for the TV series Twisted Metal. Meanwhile, Will Ospreay is also set for an absence after a particularly bruising few months.
With Joe and Ospreay set to take a break, it’s been claimed that another former World Champion will also be stepping back.
At All In, Kazuchika Okada beat Kenny Omega in a huge “Winner Take All” match for the International and Continental Championship. As a result, Okada is now recognised as the Unified Champion.”
It’s now been reported by Fightful Select that Kenny Omega is also due to go on hiatus. There’s no word on how long Omega will be out of action or the reason behind his absence.
On the July 16 edition of Dynamite, Don Callis repeatedly crowed over Okada beating Omega, repeatedly saying his former charge was “dead.”
AEW’s Kenny Omega Knows His Career Is Limited
During an interview ahead of All In, Kenny Omega opened up about the toll wrestling takes on his body after undergoing surgery for diverticulitis. The star recalled spending days in bed following Anarchy in the Arena, commenting that he simply didn’t have the energy to move.
Omega added that he “hasn’t got much left,” but remains keen to keep performing at a high level.
The former World Champion returned to the ring in January after missing 13 months of action after being diagnosed with diverticulitis. The star has since confirmed that doctors feared he’d lose his life after he initially tried to work through the illness before seeking treatment.
