Former AEW Champion Retiring At 36? Tony Khan Answers

AEW Tony Khan talk

Injuries are a cruel part of the professional wrestling business, and AEW currently has many top stars ruled out due to various injuries. Both Swerve Strikland and Will Ospreay are out with lengthy injuries, while Kenny Omega struggles with fitness as well.

However, one former AEW Champion who has been extremely unlucky with injuries is the former leader of the Undisputed Era, Adam Cole. The 36-year-old has been dealing with concussion issues for almost his entire AEW run.

Most recently, Cole was the TNT Champion in the company and was scheduled to defend his title at All In: Texas, but he had to relinquish the title on the night due to another injury. Now, Tony Khan has provided an update on the wrestler.

The AEW president was speaking on the Ariel Halwani Show where he stated that he’s extremely positive that the former TNT Champion will wrestle for his company once again. He even claimed that other roles are also open for the wrestler within the company if he chooses to hang up his boots.

“I think it would have to be the right situation for Adam to wrestle again. I think it’s, at least possible, for us to keep Adam as part of the family, but I want to get to where he feels good about travelling again. I’ve been open with him that when he’s ready, there’s always a role in AEW for him. He’s been a commentator at times, a host of the shows, he’s a great talent he could be involved in a lot of things, and if he ever did want to wrestle again and it was the right situation and everyone could wrap their heads around it, so to speak, it would make a lot of sense. Anything involving head injuries or serious injuries, I always want to look at it and evaluate it to see if it makes sense and if we can do it safely where it’s gonna be a good outcome for everyone.” Khan said.

Former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson also suffered various injury issues while wrestling for the promotion and has now transitioned easily into becoming a commentator for the promotion.
