Forgotten Former Tag Team Champion Backstage At AEW Dynamite

Keith Lee & Samoa Joe blur AEW logo

An absent AEW star could be on their way back.

Ahead of AEW Worlds End in December 2023, Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee looked set to resume their rivalry, however, the match was called off at the eleventh hour. Just hours before the event, Lee revealed that he’d been working through an injury for well over a year, and he was replaced in the match by Dustin Rhodes.

Just a month later Lee said he was undergoing “double surgeries” but details on these procedures and his wrestling future have been few and far between.

Back in October, Keith Lee shared a cryptic update on his status, thanking fans for sticking with him.

I certainly don’t see them all, but I have seen many. I must take the time to say thank you. And I must take the time to tell you…. we are not done. Hang in there, just like I am. Whatever it is…. the time will come. Let’s move forward. Oh. And don’t forget to go vote.

However, despite his lengthy absence, it seems the star might be slowly returning to the fold.

As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Lee was backstage at the February 5 episode of Dynamite. This is especially notable as the star hasn’t attended any tapings in some time.

Lee hasn’t wrestled since defeating Brian Cage on December 23, 2023.

AEW Star Leaves Company

The news on Keith Lee comes on the same day that it was reported Malakai Black has officially left AEW after being removed from the company’s roster page. Although he’s now a free agent that isn’t expected to be the case for long, as it’s widely believed Black will re-sign with WWE.

Before signing with AEW, Black spent five years with WWE and retains a connection with the company through his wife Zelina Vega.
