Forgotten AEW Star Still Under Contract
A wrestling veteran is still with AEW.
After starting out in WCW and battling the likes of Hulk Hogan, Paul Wight signed with WWE in early 1999, debuting at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Known as The Big Show, Wight went on to become a five-time World Champion, while winning plenty of other championship gold along with way. However, by 2021, Wight was very much in the veteran stage of his career and left the company after failing to agree on terms for a new contract.
The star subsequently signed with AEW and worked on commentary while looking to extend his career. But despite his best efforts, Wight has wrestled just five televised matches, while being used in a variety of roles across AEW and Ring of Honor.
Paul Wight Still Under AEW Contract
During a new interview with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda, Paul Wight confirmed that he’s still under contract with AEW, and very happy about the fact. He went on to say that AEW is very grassroots and authentic, which is something he appreciates.
“I am still with AEW, still very happy with AEW. Very happy with Tony Khan and what he’s doing. I think there’s a lot of couch bookers out there that always have the best ideas on what should be done. [Aren’t they the worst?] They’re not the worst, because everybody’s entitled to their opinion.
I appreciate Tony and the way he treats his talent, and the kind of liberty that Tony gives talent to discover themselves and find themselves. It’s not a cookie-cutter process in AEW. They’re not this is your ring entrance. This is how you pose. This is what you wear. AEW is very grassroots, authentic. And for me at this stage of the game, I appreciate that.”
Back in September, Paul Wight admitted he “hadn’t done sh*t” in AEW since signing with the company. He added that he wanted to follow Sting’s retirement blueprint by having matches with young talent before bowing out.
