Forgotten AEW Star Admits Career Has Taken A Nosedive
An AEW star has opened up about their absence from television.
Scorpio Sky signed with AEW alongside SoCal Uncensored partners Ethan Page and Frankie Kazarian when the company launched in early 2019.
He and Kazarian were then crowned the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, and the future seemed bright. The star eventually turned his attention to singles competition, and by the end of July 2022, he was a two-time TNT Champion.
However, he then missed a year of action before returning on the July 8, 2023, edition of Collision, where he defeated Action Andretti. On the surface, it might have looked as though Sky’s career was back on track, as he made several more appearances on television and Ring of Honor, but it proved to be a false dawn.
Sky wrestled his last match for Ring of Honor on October 7 of that year, and he hasn’t stepped in the ring for ROH or AEW since. Scorpio Sky appeared in a pre-taped backstage segment in August 2024, but despite a tease, a return never materialised.
Scorpio Sky Confused By AEW Absence
In a new interview with Creating Character, Sky discussed this strange period of his career, even joking that things have clearly taken a nosedive.
“My career has sure taken a nosedive, hasn’t it? [Laughs] Anyone who has followed me obviously knows that things have been a little different over the past couple of years.”
Sky went on to explain that despite his best attempts not to say anything negative about AEW in a July 2024 interview with Chris Van Vliet, it seems those efforts weren’t enough. However, he admitted that he doesn’t know why he isn’t being used on television.
“I love that show. To be honest with you, I didn’t lie when I was on the show, but I definitely went out of my way to not make the company look bad. I really wanted to preserve a relationship that has been built over a number of years, and I didn’t want to say anything that would poison that relationship.
Come to find out, someone there still maybe has a few issues with some of the things I may have said. Now I’m like, ‘Screw it, I’m going to say whatever the hell I want now.’
“t’s something that has been on my mind. I don’t think about it too much, but sometimes I do wonder, ‘What is the perspective? Do people think I’m not profiled because I suck, I don’t have it anymore, I’m hurt, do they they think there is bad blood?’
The reality is I don’t know what it is. I don’t know if there is bad blood or not. I know I’m healthy and I’ve been healthy for a long time and I’ve been wanting to compete. It’s just one of those things where, what can you do? You only have so much say. You have this much [holds fingers close together] say. You do what you can.”
While away from AEW, Sky has continued to wrestle across the independent scene, with his most recent match against Hammerstone coming in April.
