First Match Set In Tournament To Crown New WWE Women’s US Champion

WWE Womens US United States Title

The first match in WWE’s tournament to crown a new Women’s US Champion is set for Friday Night SmackDown.

There is a lot of excitement in WWE after a brand new Women’s US Title was announced by Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis on November 8th.

While the women of NXT have a secondary title to fight for, the Women’s North American Title currently held by Fallon Henley, the women on the main roster only have the main singles titles on each brand along with the Women’s Tag Team Titles that are allowed to be defended on any show.

After the announcement by GM Aldis, fans had questions about how the first champion will be determined.

It has been reported by Wrestlevotes on X/Twitter that a tournament will begin on tonight’s Smackdown in Milwaukee.

Sources indicate a Women’s United States Championship Tournament kicks off tonight on #SmackDown with a first-round Triple Threat Match: Candice LeRae vs. B-Fab vs. Bayley

That’s an interesting triple threat match because Bayley is one of the most decorated women’s champions of all time while LeRae hasn’t held a main roster title other than the Women’s Speed Title. B-Fab has mostly been in a manager’s role, so it’s a huge opportunity for her.

It is not known how many tournament matches will take place, if it’s just a Smackdown title only, or if women from Raw will be involved. At this time, WWE has yet to announce if there will be a Raw Women’s Intercontinental Title.

Two Title Matches On WWE SmackDown

While WWE has yet to announce when the first Women’s US Champion will be crowned, there are two title matches advertised for Smackdown in Milwaukee.

Nia Jax will defend the WWE Women’s Title against Naomi, who recently pinned Jax in a match although it was a controversial finish.

The Motor City Machine Guns duo of Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin won the WWE Tag Team Titles in just their third match in WWE. On Smackdown, they’ll have to put the titles on the line against The Street Profits duo of Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins. Both members of The Profits have talked about the importance of winning the titles. Ford specifically admitted that “everything is not okay” and that the team needs to win those titles in this match.
