Finn Balor Reveals The True Origins Of The Iconic Bullet Club
Finn Balor recently revealed the details behind how the Bullet Club came about.
Before joining WWE, Balor was a talent on the New Japan Pro Wrestling roster, where he competed under the name Prince Devitt.
In 2013, he became heel by turning on his then-partner Ryusuke Taguchi, and subsequently formed a faction, which they called the Bullet Club, including Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale, and Tama Tonga.
The Irish wrestler quit NJPW in 2014 and was replaced by AJ Styles.
Finn Balor was the latest guest on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes podcast, where he discussed the origin of his faction while wrestling in Japan.
I was trying to think what ties us all together. And at the time, Fale was using the hand grenade finish, similar to Solo (Sikoa). And then there’s the Machine Gun (Anderson). And I was the ‘real shooter.’ So I was like, ‘What links us all together?’ And it was Bullet Club. [H/T: Wrestling Observer]
The Demon Gimmick Was Ruined On WWE’s Main Roster, Claims Finn Balor
Finn Balor is known for being a professionally sound and safe wrestler inside the squared circle.
The 44-year-old was also renowned for his alter ego, The Demon, which generated massive pop on NXT. Balor did not expose the character much due to the fear of ruining its element of surprise.
Balor last appeared in his Demon form at WrestleMania 39 during his Hell in a Cell match against Edge.
Speaking on the podcast, the Irish wrestler admitted to there being confusion about the Demon character on the main roster that led to its ruin.
It was done really effectively in NXT, but when I came to the main roster, it wasn’t done as well for a multitude of reasons.
I don’t think I need it, and that’s why I was so resistant to doing it for a long time. The way it was booked and presented by the company, I felt it just wasn’t effective — or as effective as it could have been.
There was some sort of confusion, like why is he the Demon some nights and Finn on other nights? Maybe some people were let down when I wasn’t the Demon.
