Finn Balor Blames WWE For Messing Up Demon Character

The Demon Finn Balor

Finn Balor has admitted he was not happy with how his Demon character was presented on WWE television.

When Finn Balor joined WWE in 2014, the company got more than it bargained for. As well as the man who founded Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Balor also brought his demonic alter-ego with him, unleashing it on his rivals to devastating effect.

Balor unleashed his painted Demon several times in NXT, dominating opponents for the most part and only suffering one loss while using that character. When he graduated to the main roster, Balor donned his Demon paint when he became the first-ever WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam in 2016.

Like many NXT stars that make it to the WWE main roster, things often change, and fans grew uneasy with how the Demon character was used. The last time fans saw it was at WrestleMania 39 when Balor lost to Edge in a Hell In A Cell match.

Finn Balor Admits Confusion Over Demon Character

Speaking to Cody Rhodes on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Balor revealed he wasn’t thrilled with how his Demon character was used on the main roster and admits there was some confusion about his alter ego:

It was done really effectively in NXT, but when I came to the main roster, it wasn’t done as well for a multitude of reasons.

I don’t think I need it, and that’s why I was so resistant to doing it for a long time. The way it was booked and presented by the company, I felt it just wasn’t effective — or as effective as it could have been.

There was some sort of confusion, like why is he the Demon some nights and Finn on other nights? Maybe some people were let down when I wasn’t the Demon.

But that doesn’t mean Finn Balor won’t don the Demon paint again; he’d just make one demand:

I would love to go back to doing it, but I’d love to have more creative control. In the future, I would love to get back to doing it.

Finn Balor is currently part of The Judgment Day, but with relationships in that group growing increasingly fragile, it could well be one of his current partners that has the Demon unleashed on them in the future.
