“F*ck This Big Guy” – Why WWE Locker Room Hated Ex-World Champion
A major former WWE World Champion says he was at the epicentre of a lot of jealousy from the wrestlers in the locker room.
Fans of WWE who followed the product throughout the 2010s would recognise this former WWE superstar. The ‘Monster Among Men’ Braun Strowman was known for his freakish strength and muscular frame combined with surprising agility, and was over with the crowd, who were all in for him being pushed to the top. He had memorable feuds with A-list stars such as Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens and Drew McIntyre.
Strowman got an early push after he arrived in the WWE in 2015, after a short NXT run. After a brief stint as a member of the Wyatt Family, He was poised as a main event threat soon after and went on to have the most eliminations in the 2016 Royal Rumble Match.
His sudden push did not sit well with a lot of his colleagues who felt that he lacked the in-ring experience required to be a main eventer and additionally did not rise the ranks via the independent wrestling scene.
Braun Strowman Had Backstage Heat For Skipping WWE NXT
In an appearance on ‘Something’s Burning’, Strowman noted that he got to practically skip performing at NXT, barring one Dark Match and a few shows. This led to many people in the locker room being jealous and hating him for the push he got.
“I did one dark match in NXT, then I did three house shows with NXT so I like to joke around, we always said it was the Bullet Club, but The Club, Gallows, Anderson, and AJ Styles when they came in, we’re the only four that skipped NXT. So, we skipped NXT and kind of went straight to the main roster, which is like really wild for me because, like I said, coming in, not born into the business, didn’t come through the indie. So, I was an outsider. I was hated. Everyone was like, “F*ck this big guy.” And all this sh*t. There was the ‘he didn’t pay his dues’ thing”.
Strowman went on to say that most people didn’t see his intense struggle in his road to WWE as he recalled having to sleep in his car and later working towards becoming North America’s Strongest Man in 2011.
Strowman is a former WWE Universal Champion winning the belt after defeating Goldberg at Wrestlemania 36. He has also held the Intercontinental and Tag Team titles during his run in WWE.
