Fans Divided As New TNA World Champion Crowned

TNA Wrestling has a new World Champion but not everyone is happy about it.

In recent weeks Joe Hendry has seen his popularity explode. While the Scottish star has enjoyed a cult following for some time, things have gone to a whole new level since TNA began working with WWE and NXT.

Hendry has immediately clicked with the NXT audience, becoming arguably the most popular star on WWE’s third brand. As such, many expected the star to walk away from Slammiversary with the TNA World Championship after his elimination match with Moose, Nic Nemeth, Frankie Kazarian, Josh Alexander, and Steve Maclin.

However, that’s not quite how things played out.

Hendry caused the first shock of the match by eliminating Moose, which meant there was guaranteed to be a new champion. But fans were left stunned when Alexander turned heel by hitting Hendry with a low blow before landing the C4 to eliminate him.

In the end, Nemeth pinned Alexander to become the new TNA World Champion, but it was clear fans weren’t happy in the arena. On social media in the hours after the event, many echoed that sentiment commenting that while they have no ill will towards Nemeth, they saw not crowning Hendry as a backward step.

With victory, Nemeth added the TNA World Title to the AAA Mega Championship he won back in April.
