Fan Shockingly Sues WWE Over Unexpected Incident
A report of a fan suing WWE for a 2024 incident has come to light.
The fan, who hails from Pennsylvania, filed a lawsuit earlier this year. He had attended the April 22, 2024, show in Columbus, Ohio, when he slipped on an unmarked puddle.
In his 19-page complaint, William Ricks detailed the incident, claiming he slipped on “an unmarked puddle of a liquid or liquid-like substance that was not open and obvious” while walking near sections 207/208.
While he explained that the fall resulted in permanent pain and suffering, the court filing itself did not contain the detailed information.
Along with WWE, Ricks is also suing the Columbus Sports Arena and Entertainment, Ohio State University, as it owns the arena, and UMR, Inc., a health insurance provider.
As of this moment, neither of the three parties has officially addressed the lawsuit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, Eastern Division.
The Stamford promotion faced a similar lawsuit in 2023 after a fan got injured while attending WrestleMania 38.
WWE, Cody Rhodes Pursuing Settlement In Trademark Lawsuit
In 2019, Cody Rhodes applied for patent registration of his “The American Nightmare” moniker, but was opposed by Wesley Einsold, who had previously trademarked it in 2016.
Since then, the three parties have been embroiled in a legal tussle, with Rhodes already having paid Einsold a one-time fee of $30,000.
As a result, Rhodes was allowed to use the moniker, but not trademark it.
Since returning to WWE in 2022, Rhodes has stuck with the moniker as an ode to his father, the late Dusty Rhodes.
The Stamford promotion, meanwhile, continues to sell The American Nightmare merchandise, which is one of the top preferences among fans.
While the case has experienced extensions in the past, it has not been officially dismissed or publicly settled. Any failed negotiations could cost Rhodes and WWE significantly.
