Exact Moment AJ Styles Suffered Injury On WWE SmackDown Revealed
With confusion running wild over AJ Styles’ status in WWE after his SmackDown match was stopped, the moment he was injured has apparently been confirmed.
AJ Styles made his long-awaited return to SmackDown in Nashville but his hero’s welcome was soon cut short when Carmelo Hayes interrupted. Styles was ready to fight there and then challenging Hayes to a match on the show but the former NXT Champion declined.
That led to US Champion LA Knight making an appearance with an interesting proposition. Knight issued a challenge for Hayes to take on Styles and if Hayes won then he’d get a shot at Knight’s title and Hayes quickly accepted.
However, the match was brought to a premature end as AJ Styles seemed to suffer an injury to his ankle. The WWE commentary team noted the ringside doctor had mentioned Styles might have suffered a sprain and referee Charles Robinson called the match off. It was later noted in the show that Styles was being evaluated for his apparent injury at a hospital.
Is AJ Styles Really Injured?
There have since been conflicting reports over the legitimacy of AJ Styles’ injury but the exact moment the former WWE Champion got hurt has now apparently been pinpointed.
Speaking on Filthy Four Daily, Bryan Alvarez – who was the first to report that Styles’ injury was legitimate – explained what happened to Styles:
What happened was, they did a spot. AJ was going to do the lionsault and land on his feet and immediately get hit with a high cross by Carmelo. Carmelo hit him with a high cross and AJ’s leg and foot folded underneath him and he injured his foot.
They went to commercial and he tried to keep working on one leg. Then at the end, he couldn’t keep working, they stopped the match. Legitimate injury. We’ll see how long he’s out. First match back, it sucks, it was a freak injury.
Given the way the match ended, Carmelo Hayes has claimed his US Title match against LA Knight, when AJ Styles will be back in the ring remains to be seen.
