Ex-WWE Star Was Yelled At For Strange Reason
A former WWE superstar has revealed that he was yelled at by management for being too polite in the ring.
There is a uniqueness to the pro wrestling business where the wrestlers in it are taught to be respectful to the people. They are told to thank the wrestler they are sharing the ring with because while they are performing for the fans, they are also doing their best to protect each other. That means there’s a special bond between the talent in the ring.
Maven is a former WWE superstar from the early 2000s who holds the distinction of being the first male winner of the Tough Enough reality series. He has become popular with modern wrestling fans due to his entertaining stories on his YouTube channel.
While telling a story on a recent YouTube video, Maven spoke about how he got in trouble with WWE management because he said “thank you” in the ring.
“I got heat for, at the end of my matches, win or lose, in my training, I was taught that as the pin is going you thank your opponent, and a way to thank your opponent can be just whether you’re going over, getting the win or doing the job, taking the loss, you thank them.
“Why are you thanking them? You’re thanking them for putting food on your table. You’re thanking them for entertaining the fans. You’re thanking them for helping you tell a story. Now I don’t know if I did. I maybe took it wrong, but I was audibly thanking people win or lose. I would literally ‘thanks, thanks, brother,’ and it was loud enough to where people could hear it.”
WWE Management Gave Maven An “Ass-Chewing” Backstage
As he continued, Maven spoke about how management reacted to his constant thanking in the ring.
I got an ass-chewing backstage, and people told me, ‘Hey, you can thank them. Just give them the Iggy.’ You know when you’re going up, squeeze a leg, squeeze an arm. That’s a way of saying thank you, and still, to this day, if anything happens that I’m doing in the ring. It’s less these days, obviously, but if I do anything with anybody in the ring, the moment that we’re done, I’m thanking them even in the ring.”
In previous videos talking about his career, Maven revealed that he turned down WWE when they wanted him to come back to the company.
