Ex-WWE Writer: “How In God’s Name Does Triple H Not Get Fired?”
Triple H continues to receive flak for putting up a ‘shoddy’ show that was the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The show’s highlight was John Cena competing in his last-ever wrestling match against Gunther.
While Gunther earned his spot by defeating four different opponents in the “Last Time Is Now” tournament, Cena went into the match after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio.
Days before the show, reports claimed that the 17-time world champion had been written to lose the match, thus setting the stage for The Ring General’s future dominance.
Despite hopes that WWE might pivot from its original plan, the match ended with Cena not only losing the match but also tapping out in the process.
Vince Russo Frustrated By Triple H’s Creative Direction In WWE
During a recent podcast on his YouTube channel, Vince Russo questioned Triple H’s overwhelming presence in WWE.
In doing so, he brought up the company’s struggling streaming performance on Netflix before discussing John Cena’s retirement tour leading up to his final match at SNME.
We gotta talk about, you know, the John Cena…I mean, wow. I just…I bring this up all the time. You know, numbers continue to go down. We’re seeing trends. The lost Fox. ESPN allegedly not happy. Right of the bat, they’re out of the top 10 in Netflix for two weeks in a row, and what’s everybody reporting? This premiered on Netflix, and that premiered on Netflix. Bro, they haven’t even been on in a year, and they’re already falling out of the top 10.
But how can anybody look at this booking of John Cena’s farewell tour from day one to what we saw over the weekend? How can anybody look at the entire picture and say, “How in god’s name does Triple H not get fired?” I was thinking about this. However long it was, 10 months or a year, whatever it was, name me one spot, name me one time when Cena shined. He got his a** kicked by Brock Lesnar. He lost his last two matches on the way out. When he won the title, it was Travis Scott. Travis Scott helped to win the title.
I don’t even know how to describe the heel turn. How does anybody not look at this story from beginning to end and say, “You know what? We should really rethink this Triple H booking.” [0:11 onwards]
