Ex-WWE Writer Criticises Raw Announcer’s “Low, Boring Energy”

A former WWE writer has taken shots at a current announcer on Monday Night Raw, taking issue with what they deem “low, boring energy.”

WWE shook up their announce teams in early October 2022 with the return of two-man booths to Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. Wade Barrett and Vic Joseph were calling the action on NXT as part of the move before Barrett was moved to SmackDown to cover for Pat McAfee who ordinarily called the blue brand with Michael Cole.

On Raw, Jimmy Smith moved on from the company with Corey Graves left on commentary to be joined by Kevin Patrick. Patrick had previously worked for WWE as a backstage interviewer.

Speaking on Legion of Raw, former WWE writer Vince Russo took issue with Patrick in his role on Raw and compared his style to the energy brought in the Attitude Era by Jim Ross:

“This guy, I don’t even know his name. Whatever, Dana Patrick? I don’t even know his name. This guy opens up the show with such low, boring energy. This is why I’m so tired of the excuses. What’s the excuse that this guy can’t be excited about opening up this show?”

“I’m begging anybody, anybody, go watch a show from the Attitude Era and listen to JR open a show. He is so excited, so over the top. He wouldn’t rather be anywhere else in the world. We don’t know what we’re gonna see tonight.”
