Ex-WWE Star Went To Wrestler’s Court Because Of One Move
A former WWE superstar was sent to Wrestler’s Court because he questioned a veteran wrestler about using a particular move.
The WWE career of mid-2000s wrestler Muhammad Hassan was the focus of Dark Side of the Ring this week. The Hassan character was an Arab-American who was portrayed by an Italian-American, Mark Copani.
At the peak of Hassan’s run, he was one of the top heels in the company who was hated due to how he would do promos, complaining about how Americans treated him and his people.
Muhammad Hassan used The Iron Sheik’s finishing move, The Camel Clutch, as a finisher during his WWE career. Copani told the story about how Kurt Angle told him to say something to Eddie Guerrero about it since Eddie used it during matches.
“So of course, this is was one of those moments where I should have kept my mouth shut. I went up to Eddie and I said, ‘Should you be using the Camel Clutch because I’m using it as a finisher?’ And, he looked at me and he kind of smiled. He’s like, ‘I’ve always used a Camel Clutch.’ He’s like, ‘My father invented it.’ I was like, of course he did. So, of course the boys get a hold of this, and it turns into nuclear heat. It’s disrespectful, and how dare I?
I was mortified and I just really felt like I made a mistake that I’m not going to come back from. I remember calling my father and I’m just like, ‘I just want to fly home.’ He was like, ‘You’re going to go out there and you’re going to face this.’ And so I had to go to Wrestling Court.”
That led to the former Chris Masters explaining that Wrestler’s Court was a way to shame a wrestler in front of everybody. The Undertaker was the judge, jury and executioner.
How Did The Undertaker Punish Muhammad Hassan In WWE Wrestler’s Court?
According to Copani, his punishment was buying a lot of booze.
“My consequence for that was buying over $1,000 worth of drinks. There were certain wrestlers that were pouring the drinks on the floor after I bought them. Pouring high quality alcohol in Japan on the floor seems pretty stupid, looking back on it now.”
“But after that, Eddie Guerrero came up to me and very kindly put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘I know you didn’t mean anything by it.’ He gave me a hug and we moved on.”
The end of Hassan’s WWE run came at the 2005 Great American Bash when he lost to The Undertaker in a way that ended the character. Hassan was written off TV since WWE got nuclear heat for doing a beheading angle at a time when something similar happened in London, England. The angle that WWE did got so much heat that WWE was forced to take Hassan off the air and he was never brought back.
