Ex-WWE Tag Team Champion Makes Debut In Tony Khan’s Ring

AEW President Tony Khan

A former tag team champion in WWE has jumped across wrestling’s divide to make their debut for one of Tony Khan’s promotions.

Kayden Carter was released from WWE in May 2025 during a wave of roster cuts. Signed initially in 2018, she made her mark in NXT, notably as one-half of the tag team with Katana Chance. Together, they captured both the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Carter recently expressed an interest in joining AEW, and now it seems that she’s moved one step closer to doing so.

Prior to the September 10th edition of Dynamite going live, matches were taped for Ring of Honor TV. Competing in one of the matches was Kayden Carter, now known as Lacey Lane. Her match is expected to air later in the week on Honor Club.

The bout was the star’s first since the April 11th edition of SmackDown, which proved to be her final match in WWE.

Lane follows in the footsteps of another former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Isla Dawn, who competed in an AEW ring when the company was in her hometown of Glasgow, Scotland, in August.

Lacey Lane has previously complained about feeling creatively constricted during her time in WWE, as her career in the company was allowed to simply peter out.

Tony Khan Gives New Role To Bryan Danielson

On September 6, it was announced that Bryan Danielson would be joining the commentary team on AEW Dynamite full-time. The American Dragon proved to be a big hit with fans in the role during Forbidden Door.

In a later interview, Tony Khan explained the decision, commenting that it made sense to get the former AEW World Champion back on television. He added that he believes Danielson willl contribute “very intelligent, insightful commentary.”
