Ex-WWE Star’s Return Credited To Personal Relationship With John Cena

WWE legend John Cena

Ex-WWE star Zack Ryder returned to WWE because of John Cena.

On the November 14 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Ryder, also known as Matt Cardona, made his return to WWE.

He was LA Knight’s mystery opponent in John Cena’s Last Time Is Now Tournament. It was a one-off appearance because he’s still contracted to TNA.

John Cena Pushed For Zack Ryder’s Return To WWE

During an interview with Adrian Hernandez, Ryder’s wife, Chelsea Green, revealed that John Cena played a crucial role in Zack Ryder’s WWE return.

Ryder had been in contact with WWE’s CCO Triple H for over five years, continuously expressing his desire to return.

Plus, the return was facilitated largely because of his long-standing friendship with John Cena, who also advocated for him.

He’s been in contact with WWE constantly. The whole five years he’s been in contact with WWE.

He’s always making sure that Triple H knows what he’s doing or that he’s available for a Rumble and things like that.

I just think it was a perfect storm — this made the most sense because he does have a personal friendship and relationship with John Cena.

So why wouldn’t he want to be John Cena’s final opponent?

And so it worked perfectly — between me pestering WWE, John Cena really pestering WWE, and Matt pestering WWE.

They caved and it worked. That’s what I’m saying: you’ve got to keep asking. If you don’t ask — closed mouths don’t get fed.

Ryder has publicly expressed his desire to return to WWE full-time in many interviews. Speaking with 1WrestlingVideo, he stated that he’d be happy to return to WWE if they call him back.

Ryder said, “That is a great question, but just like Matt Cardona, Zack Ryder is always ready. So that if the phone rings, we’ll have a conversation.”
