Ex-WWE Star’s Life Fell Apart After Wife Cheated With His Brother
A former WWE star was forced to endure the reality of his wife cheating with his brother, sending him into a downward spiral.
In the early 2010s, it seemed WWE had struck gold with a new top star as Alberto Del Rio soon found himself winning the WWE Championship. A reign with the World Heavyweight Championship followed, but by 2014, Del Rio’s time in the company came to an abrupt end after he allegedly got physical with a member of staff who made a racist joke.
During his first run in the company, Del Rio was known for his fancy cars, his silk scarves, and for having his own private ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez had been an in-ring competitor and returned to the ring himself when his stint as Del Rio’s ring announcer came to an end.
While Alberto Del Rio’s out-of-the-ring problems have been widely publicised, it seems that Ricardo Rodriguez has undergone his fair share of trials and tribulations as well.
Ricardo Rodriguez Suffered Personal Pain After WWE Exit
Speaking on an episode of TV Azteca’s La Granja VIP, Albero Del Rio revealed that Rodriguez was forced to endure his wife having an affair with his own brother, sending him into a spiral of alcoholism:
His wife cheated on him with his brother, and they took everything from him. They literally cleaned him out and left him on the streets. That sent him into a depression that led to alcoholism. But he beat it. He overcame it two and a half years ago. He’s been sober ever since.
Del Rio noted that since getting better, Rodriguez has opened his own wrestling school and explained why he thinks Rodriguez never made it on the big stage as a wrestler in his own right:
When he came back — after conquering his demons — he returned to the industry and started his own little wrestling school.
He’s an amazing wrestler. Technically, he’s great, but he doesn’t have the look, the aesthetic, or the physique to be marketable. Still, he’s an excellent wrestler.
