Ex-WWE Star Thought Wellness Violation Was A Work
A former WWE star was confused after being suspended for a wellness policy violation.
Eva Marie joined WWE in 2013 after becoming part of the Total Divas reality TV series. Despite having no prior wrestling training, and very little as she began her career, Marie was quickly moved to the main roster.
The star moved to NXT in 2015, but by the following March, she was back on Raw.
In 2017, Marie left WWE to pursue non-wrestling projects, but she eventually returned in June 2021, after being back under contract for eight months. Despite a lavish presentation, Marie’s short storyline with Piper Niven, who was known as Doudrop, was met with heavy criticism.
On November 4, 2021, Marie was released by WWE during a round of talent cuts.
Eva Marie Had Surprising Reaction To WWE Suspension
During a new interview with DS Shin on Ring The Belle, Marie reflected on her high-profile suspension by the company in 2016. The star fell foul of WWE’s wellness policy, and as a result, she was replaced at SummerSlam by Nikki Bella.
During this period, Marie’s heel character saw her trying to find ways not to wrestle and stay out of the ring. This led her to question whether the suspension was part of the storyline.
“I mean, what was crazy about that to this day is still bizarre because, I mean, the fact that WWE allowed me to put out my statement the way that I did because it was all paperwork because they totally knew for sure everything was documented from my doctor. That’s why I thought it was a gimmick. I thought it was, it was like that moment devastated me.
That was a moment that I think that I will never, I would never want anyone to experience because I had come back and I remember it was like such a huge match and it was like getting promoted and it was six man and it was like almost, basically me coming back onto the scene.
Then that happened and then I was like taking a flight back to the West. It was just a horrendous. Then what was crazy about that, Nikki is who replaced me. So I was like, is this a storyline? Like what is going on? Like this does not even seem like real.”
Despite the release, Eva Marie has repeatedly claimed she’d be open to a WWE return, suggesting that the door is never closed on a comeback. The star hasn’t wrestled since leaving the company in late 2021.
