A former WWE star has benefitted from leaving the company.

In September 2023, Matt Riddle was finally released by WWE after what the company felt was one controversy too many. Riddle’s exit came shortly after an incident at JFK airport, and he’s since revealed he failed two drug tests during his run with the sports entertainment giant.

In a new interview with the New York Post, Riddle reflected on his departure, suggesting the company was doing everything it could to protect itself.

“While I think WWE was doing the best they could, or thought they were doing the best they could, but at the same time, WWE protects WWE, as they should. But at the same time, we’re all human. We’re all people and sometimes I think that gets lost in translation in a publicly traded company,”

Riddle went on to explain that while his professional career was going strong, his personal life was “in shambles.”

“Even though I was making great money, my family life deteriorated, I got divorced and other things and then on top of that just being able to see the kids, then just taking care of responsibilities. When I’m flying to a different city or driving to a different city every day and wrestling and memorizing promos and all these things, a lot of other things fell to the side.

I’m in a way different place [now]. I feel way better. It’s hard to explain because most people think, ‘Oh you’re there, it must be great.’ Professionally my life was awesome. Personally, my life was in shambles. You lose your family. You lose this, that and you’re trying to rebuild anything and you don’t have time,”

Matt Riddle Reflects On Heat With Top WWE Star

Long before he was released by WWE, Riddle went on record in an interview saying he could beat Roman Reigns in a real fight. Unsurprisingly, the comments and others didn’t go down well with the former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

However, during his conversation with the New York Post, Matt Riddle said the pair are now “good,” pointing to the match they had together in 2022.
