Ex-WWE Star Warned By Company She Was “Too Sexy”
A former WWE Superstar recently recalled being told to stop being “too sexy.”
Mandy Rose joined the Stamford-based company after participating in the 2015 Tough Enough competition. She debuted on the main roster nearly two years later as part of Paige’s Absolution.
On a recent episode of her Power Alphas podcast, the former NXT Women’s Champion recalled being warned during her early days on the main roster that she was “too sexy” and was asked to “take it down a notch.”
The 34-year-old revealed that she tried to adhere to the instructions given to her, but struggled as she felt she ended up looking pretentious.
I don’t know if I ever told anyone this story, but when I first got to the main roster, I was like The Golden Goddess and the sexy one from Tough Enough and whatever. And I was told to like ‘Take it down a notch, you’re too sexy.’ So now, I’m going, ‘To be honest, I’m not even trying to be sexy.’ Cuz really I wasn’t. I just am.
I wasn’t trying. But then what do you think happened when they told me to take it down a notch, or I’m being too sexy? Because I was told you’re the sexy one whatever. The second I got told I’m being too sexy, I started all, you know, pulling back a little bit. But then it was looked like I was trying to be sexy cuz I wasn’t trying too hard. But then it almost looked fake. [41:50 onwards]
Rose revealed that this remark came from “the big dog,” seemingly referring to former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Mandy Rose’s Move From WWE Main Roster To NXT Helped Her Character
After four years on the main roster, Mandy Rose was moved back to NXT in 2021 to become the leader of Toxic Attraction.
On the same episode of Power Alphas, the former WWE Superstar detailed how her return to NXT helped her feel more like herself.
I think was my NXT days was when I finally felt like this is me. Like, I went a little darker, I was a little edgier, but like that is me. Like, I’m not, like, yes, I’m a blonde bombshell sometimes and all that but I just feel like I was able to be like my cool self. [42:46 onwards]
Rose was released from WWE in December 2022. She has since stepped away from wrestling.
