A new report has suggested that former WWE star Matt Cardona has finished up with IMPACT Wrestling for now after he refused to sign a contract with the promotion.

Cardona’s fifteen-year tenure with WWE came to an end in 2020 and since then he has gone on a tear on the independent scene, reinventing himself to great acclaim.

As well as his noted work with GCW, Matt Cardona has also appeared plenty of times for IMPACT Wrestling, as well as holding the promotion’s Digital Media Championship. However, Cardona hasn’t wrestled for the company since January 2023 and it doesn’t look like he’ll be back anytime soon.

Fightful Select has reported that after working for two years for the promotion without a contract, IMPACT Wrestling wanted the former WWE Intercontinental Champion to sign a deal but Cardona was keen to continue with their handshake agreement.

It was noted in the report that the handshake deal was not made an option by the company and it is said that IMPACT has become firmer in signing deals with talent. There is no ill-will between the two parties and both are open to working together again in the future but Cardona remains adamant that it will be on a handshake deal.
