Ex-WWE Star Taunts Goldberg Ahead Of Retirement Match

Bill Goldberg WWE

A former WWE Superstar won’t be part of Goldberg’s retirement.

In the hours before Crown Jewel, Goldberg announced he’ll be having a retirement match in 2025. There’s no word on when the match will take place or who the WWE Hall of Famer’s opponent will be.

The comments came after the veteran got into a shouting match with Gunther at Bad Blood. After spotting the WWE Hall of Famer in the crowd, Gunther called him a “one trick pony” adding he hoped he was a better dad than he was a wrestler. At this, Goldberg jumped the barrier and tried to get at Gunther only to be thwarted by security.

Naturally, there’s been a great deal of speculation that the pair will eventually meet in the ring, although according to the most recent report on the situation, a potential match won’t be taking place at the 2025 Royal Rumble.

But if not Gunther, who will be the WCW legend’s final opponent?

Who’s Next For Goldberg?

According to Matt Riddle, it won’t be him. During an interview with Barstool Rasslin’, Riddle was asked about potentially being part of the match and doesn’t think Goldberg wants any part of him.

“I don’t think he wants to step up to the plate,”

While Riddle has been openly critical of the veteran in the past, he reiterated that their issues are now behind them.

“Well, me and Bill, we’ve talked. We were actually on a flight from Saudi, we were on a Saudi show, like one of the Crown Jewel events, and we’re flying back. We had some cocktails and had a discussion. I don’t think there’s any bad blood.

I think he has more of an understanding of where I was coming from. I definitely have an understanding of where he’s coming from and why he finds what I say disrespectful and things like that. I completely understand; I don’t mean it that way. We’re professional wrestlers. I’m just spitting facts, and I can back it up. This is just what it is.”

Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia in February 2022. The veteran has competed in 12 matches since returning to the company in 2016 with a shocking win over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.
